This brief addresses issues of preschool access and quality that are specific to Hispanic children as well as other largely disadvantaged and immigrant groups.

The 2011 Yearbook examines the 2010-2011 school year as well as documenting a decade of progress since the first Yearbook collected data on the 2001-2002 school year. Twenty-eight percent of America’s 4-year-olds were enrolled in a state-funded preschool program in the 2010-2011 school year even as per child funding was cut, stressing the importance of ensuring quality in existing programs and expanding access to all children. 

This NIEER working paper examines school readiness from the parental perspective, examining their efforts and expectations for kindergarten in conjunction with their child’s development.

New Mexico’s children who attend the state-funded Pre-K program have been found to have achieved significant positive effects in vocabulary, math, and literacy skills at the beginning of kindergarten, according to the fourth in a series of annual reports by NIEER.
