The impact of state-funded pre-K expansion on the quality and supply of child care in New York and Ohio are assessed in this policy brief.

These papers report on enrollments and expenditures for ECCE across the decade from 1995 to 2005 using three harmonized National Household Education Surveys. They explore the metrics of enrollment patterns by age of child, mother’s employment, marital status, expenditure patterns and prices paid per hour of services.

State prekindergarten programs in the U.S. were featured in a June 29, 2010 webinar presented by NIEER Director Steve Barnett and the National Title I Association. Highlights from the presentation included trends in access, spending and quality standards as well as information on curriculum, English language learners, assessments, monitoring and family engagement.

This article compares the current targeted approach to preschool education with a universal approach that would increase access and quality.
