This presentation looks at the rates in which children who are Hispanic and/or English language learners enroll in preschool and the impact of pre-K on their learning outcomes.

This brief addresses issues of preschool access and quality that are specific to Hispanic children but which can also apply to some other largely disadvantaged and immigrant groups.

Dr. Lori Connors-Tadros, NIEER’s Senior Project Director for the Center on Enhancing Early Learning Outcomes (CEELO), presented to the North Central Comprehensive Center’s Advisory Board meeting in Denver, Colorado. The presentation shared an overview of early childhood policies in the region’s four states - Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Dr. Connors-Tadros discussed CEELO’s goals to build State Education Agencies’ capacity to support children’s school readiness and future academic success.

This working paper by NIEER Director Steve Barnett and NIEER Associate Director of Research Milagros Nores estimates participation in early childhood education programs by child’s age, program setting, family income level, and child’s household language.

At the Social Wealth Indicators workshop, organized by the Center for Partnership Studies, NIEER Director W. Steven Barnett spoke on recommendations for preschool indicators as part of a session dedicated to discussion of civil society, education, employment, health, and poverty indicators.
